GIO HINTS AT RETIREMENT
From: Sportinglife.com
Holland midfielder Giovanni van
Bronckhorst has indicated he may retire from international
football after Euro 2008.
The 33-year-old has made 75 appearances for his country
and remains a key figure in coach Marco van Basten's
plans ahead of this summer's tournament.
The Feyenoord playmaker featured in 10 of the Oranje's
12 qualifiers and started their most recent friendly
last month - a 4-3 win against Euro 2008 co-hosts Austria
in Vienna.
However, the former Barcelona man is wary of committing
himself to the team beyond the European Championships
because of his advancing years.
When asked if there was a possibility he may retire
from the national team following Euro 2008, he told
Voetbal International: "I don't know. I am 33 years
old and if I continue it cannot be for one year.
"If I decide to remain then I will be making a
commitment to the total route towards the 2010 World
Cup in South Africa.
"It is something to keep into account. I am a
player who wants to give his everything, but physically
and mentally I must be able to do that."
