Mark Van Bommel first foreign captain
of Bayern Munich
Friday 8 August 2008
Mark van Bommel will definitively
take over the captain's armband from retired Oliver
Kahn at Bayern Munich.
The Dutch midfielder is the first
foreign captain in the history of the German side.
"Mark is destined to be the
leader," new Bayern-manager Jürgen Klinsmann
says.
"From the start of the pre-season
he has shown to be a great leader. He is dedicated and
not afraid to speak his mind internally when he thinks
he should."
What is remarkable is that the
two reserve-captains are also foreigners.
When Van Bommel does not play the
team will be led by Argentinean Martin Demichelis or
Brazilian Lucio.
