Bundesliga, round 2: Red card Van Bommel
diminishes Bayern chances
Sunday 24 August 2008
On the second day of the Bundesliga
Mark
van Bommel
already earned his first red card and so diminished
the chances of his team Bayern Munich to gain three
points at Borussia Dortmund.
Van Bommel got two yellow cards
within three minutes (21' and 23') when Bayern were
already 1-0 down.
It was Van Bommel's fourth red
card in 58 league games for Munich.
Despite being down to ten Bayern
managed to equalize 15 minutes before the end through
Tim Borowski.
Hamburg
Martin
Jol
and HSV Hamburg continued their good start by beating
Karlsruhe 2-1 at home.
The Dutch coach had to wait until
the last seconds of the game until
Joris
Mathijsen
netted the winner.
Both Mathijsen and
Nigel de
Jong
played the full game.
Schalke 04
Fred Rutten
saw his Schalke also get a late goal to earn themselves
a draw at Werder Bremen.
Thorsten Frings had put the home
side ahead in the second half, but Heiko Westermann
managed to level the two top teams shortly before the
final whistle.
Schalke were still without the
injured
Orlando
Engelaar
and Jefferson Farfan.
Hannover 96
Arnold
Bruggink
and his club Hannover 96 didn't get beyond a 0-0 draw
at home against Energie Cottbus. Bruggink was substituted
in the 72nd minute. The former Twente and PSV player
had two good opportunities to give his side the lead
in the first half.
Lamey
Former PSV player
Michael Lamey
achieved a 1-1 draw at Hertha Berlin with his club Arminia
Bielefeld.
Lamey played the full 90 minutes.
Surprise
1899
Hoffenheim
remain the surprise package so far.
The former Oberliga side maintained
a 100% score by beating Borussia Mönchengladbach
1-0 at home.
