Angry Jol benches Van der Vaart
Saturday 2 August 2008
Although Rafael van der Vaart says
he would love to play for HSV Hamburg another year,
his facial expression this afternoon gave away what
he really wants.
The captain of the German top side
hopes for a transfer to Real Madrid, but there isn't
an agreement between Hamburg and the Spanish champions
yet.
According to Hamburg's coach Martin
Jol Van der Vaart's mental health is suffering from
the saga.
That was why he put him on the
bench this afternoon in the Emirates Cup-match against
Real Madrid (...) this afternoon.
"He's not focussed at the
moment," said Jol, who's had it with all the rumors
surrounding Van der Vaart.
"This things has been going
on for three weeks now," says Jol, who finds the
soap opera has a negative influence on the team.
"That is why I told him he's
not playing today"
Whether Van der Vaart plays in
Hamburg or in Madrid this season, it doesn't seem to
make the big difference at moment for Jol.
If only the fuzz would stop.
"Because it can't go on like
this."
Jol mainly blames the Spaniards.
He thinks they should simply pay
the prize Hamburg are asking (€ 13 million).
"Anything lower than that
is ridiculous. They know Van der Vaart is worth double
that amount."
Hamburg's Technical Director Dietmar
Beiersdorfer said today that Madrid have raised their
first bid of €7 million, but that that is still
way below what HSV are looking for.
He also said the two clubs had
met in London, but that there have been no serious negotiations.
"But something could happen
next week," the former Bundeliga-professional said.
On Thursday the reliable Spanish
news channel Cadena Ser reported that the clubs had
agreed a sum of € 9 million with a further 2 after
certain successes.
They also stated that Van der Vaart
would be presented at Madrid on Monday.
"So far he's still with us,"
Beiersdorfer said.
Asked about a possible replacement
for Van der Vaart Beiersdorfer said: "It isn't
easy to find a player of his quality. But we do have
a good team. We'll take it as it comes."
The match between the two business
parties ended in a 2-1 victory for Real.
Ruud van Nistelrooy opened the
score, Mohamed Zidan equalised for the Germans until
Dani Parejo decided the game.
The 19-year-old had replaced Wesley
Sneijder in 60th minute.
Arjen Robben played 75 minutes
and the two Dutchmen playing for Hamburg finished the
game on the pitch.
