Jol: "Again I lose my best player"
Thursday 22 January 2009
Nigel de Jong trades Hamburger
SV for Manchester City.
The midfielder agreed terms with
the English side yesterday about a contract that binds
him to the club until the summer of 2013.
Earlier the two clubs agreed a
transfer fee of almost 20 million euro.
De Jong still has to pass a medical.
Coach Martin Jol of Hamburger SV
regrets the departure of the 24-year old midfielder
who arrived from Ajax 2½ years ago for a fee
of 1½ million.
"Again I lose my best player,"
muttered the coach who had to say good-bye to Rafael
van der Vaart at the start of this season.
"Nut we can not compete with
such figures."
It is yet unclear how HSV will
compensate for the loss of De Jong.
According to several German media
Demy de Zeeuw of AZ Alkmaar is the main candidate.
Sheik Mansour bin Zayed al Nayan,
the very wealthy owner of Manchester City, will pay
De Jong an yearly wage of 4,5 million euro.
Ajax will receive about 800,000
of the transfer fee.
Some 3 million of the fee is for
De Jong's agent Roger Linse.
