Everton target Orlando Engelaar
will sign a three-year deal with Die Bundesliga side
Schalke, managed by old boss Fred Rutten.
FC Twente boss Steve McLaren has failed to persuade
his athletic player to commit his future to the Eredivisie
club.
Holland international Engelaar impressed during Euro
2008 and has been linked to a host of clubs including
The Toffees, but he will finally seal a move to Germany.
The 28-year-old will undergo a medical on Tuesday prior
to signing his contract with the Royal Blues.
"Orlando has come on brilliantly at club and international
level", said Schalke general manager Andreas Muller.
"In Holland they don't call him 'The Controller'
for nothing. He has good vision and a great football
brain, is very calm and assured on the ball and can
become a key player for us.
Orlando also understands Fred Rutten's philosophy
like no other."
Rutten managed Engelaar in the last two seasons at
Twente and is happy to bring him to Germany: "Orlando
is a versatile player who can play in lots of positions.
