Rutten rues Schalke defeat
Saturday 27 September 2008
Schalke 04 coach Fred Rutten accepted
that his side had not deserved to take anything from
their first league defeat of the season, a 1-0 reverse
at Köln.
A goal from Youssef Mohamad right
on the stroke of half-time proved to be decisive, with
Rutten having no complaints about the outcome.
He said: "It hurts, but we
are not big enough yet to control such a game. Koln
were better and we deserved to lose.
"We have our goalkeeper to
thank that this game was not over by half-time.
"We lacked a bit of luck,
but on the other hand, a draw would not have been fair."
Rutten's fellow Dutchman Martin
Jol and his club HSV went up against Borussia Mönchengladbach
trained by yet another Dutchman, Jos Luhukay.
Jol's team won 1-0 in a match with
few events.
The first half (11') goal was scored
by Mladen Petric.
Four Dutchman - Nigel de Jong and
Joris Mathijsen for HSV and Patrick Paauwe and Roel
Brouwers for Gladbach - played the full 90 minutes.
Mark van Bommel and Bayern Munich
continued their poor start of the season with the second
consecutive defeat at Hannover 96: 1-0.
Szabolcs Huszti scored the only
goal from a free kick in the 23rd minute.
Van Bommel also played the whole
game.
