Cup: FC Groningen almost humbled by amateur
side

Eredivisie leaders FC Groningen
came very close to being humbled by an amateur side
in the second round of the KNVB Cup.
Against last year's champions of
the Sunday amateur league*, HVV Hollandia from the city
of Hoorn Groningen went 2-0 down only to equalize deep
into added time.
In extra time Marcus Berg scored
his third goal of the evening to give the professional
side a 3-2 win.
(* The Dutch amateur leagues for religious
reasons are divided in teams that play their games only
on Sunday and those that play only on Saturday. The
champions of both Saturday and Sunday league determine
who wins the general amateur title in a best-of-three
playoff.)
