Wenger remains cautious: "Job is
not over!"
Wednesday, 27 August 2008
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger
has cautioned his players ahead of tonight's Champions
League qualification game against FC Twente not to take
things lightly.
Arsenal go into the game with a
2-0 lead from the first
leg, which should be an ideal starting position.
"It is not always easy to
go into a match when you lead 2-0, but I want us to
be positive and to win it," Wenger said yesterday.
"We have done the job well
at Twente, but the job is not over. We have to respect
Twente and come into the game with a desire to win."
The Frenchman also pointed at Saturday's
1-0 defeat by Fulham.
Wenger was furious after the game.
English media said that Arsenal
need new players and with the transfer market closing
on Monday the names of Xabi Alonso (Liverpool) and Gareth
Barry (Aston Villa) were mentioned.
But Wenger wants to hear nothing
of it: "I think we have a strong team and I have
faith in the players we already have. One player can
not make the difference, we must be strong as a team."
Against Twente Wenger can dispose
of Cesc Fabregas again.
The midfielder has recovered from
a hamstring injury, but Wenger did not want to reveal
whether the Spaniard will start.
Newly acquired Mikael Silvestre
will not play.
The defender has a muscle injury.
Philippe Senderos is also unlikely
to play.
The man from Switzerland is about
to sign with AC Milan.
