"Janota is Polish and not so smart"
Thursday 25 September 2008
Of course Feyenoord coach Gertjan
Verbeek had to say something about Michal Janota after
the hard fought cup
victory over Jupiler League side TOP Oss (3-0) on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old substitute scored
twice in the second half of extra time.
"Who is Michal? He is Polish
and not so smart," Verbeek said matter-of-factish.
The coach referred to the youngster
taking of his shirt after he scored his first goal and
receiving a yellow card for it.
"I was happy he kept his shirt
on after his second goal," Verbeek muttered.
"Roy Makaay, old enough to
be his father, must have mentioned it to him. Anyway,
I can understand that he briefly loses his head after
scoring in De Kuip for the first time."
Verbeek also spoke some serious
words about Janota, who got some playing time in two
other games this season.
"The plan was to keep him
in the youth squad this season. But during the preseason
he impressed me. That is why I kept him with the squad,
but also because of the persisting personnel problems.
Michal is left-footed but you can play him anywhere
up front. He has a fierce shot."
Verbeek had some complaints about
what he said during half-time.
"That didn't have much effect.
Several players had stomach problems and spent the break
on the toilet. They showed a lot of heart though by
playing on, even into extra-time. They deserve a compliment
for that."
