Ron Vlaar in hospital again
Friday 22 August 2008
Ron Vlaar should fear to be sidelined
again for a longer period.
The 23-year-old defender of Feyenoord
twisted his knee during training yesterday and has been
brought to a hospital for observation.
Results from the first tests show
that Vlaar has sustained a knock to one of his cruciate
ligaments.
A definitive diagnosis is impossible
at the moment due to the accumulation of fluids around
the ligament.
A serious knee injury kept Vlaar
sidelined for most of the last season.
After a lengthy revalidation he
played his first full match only last Saturday against
Konyaspor.
During that game he appeared fully
fit, not shying away from challenges and playing without
any inhibitions.
Vlaar's injury is yet another chapter
in Feyenoord's disastrous pre-season.
No less than 9 players are out
with an injury at the moment, among which both center
forwards Roy Makaay and Jon Dahl Tomasson and - with
Vlaar and Kevin Hofland - both center backs are also
out.
As a consequence of the large amounts
of injuries coach Gert-Jan Verbeek will have to field
almost an entire B-squad in tomorrow's Supercup
against PSV.
