Supercup: Feyenoord without entire first
squad
Thursday 21 August 2008
Feyenoord will be almost without
it's entire first team when they face PSV Eindhoven
in Amsterdam on Saturday for the Dutch Supercup - the
Johan Cruyff Schaal.
Jonathan de Guzman, Roy Makaay,
Karim el Ahmadi, Theo Lucius, Andwele Slory and goal
keeper Sherif Ekramy are out for sure due to injuries.
Kevin Hofland, Leroy Fer, Kermit
Erasmus, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Danny Buijs and Nicky Hofs
are major question mark's for the match between the
Dutch Champions and Cup Winners.
It's the first time since 1999
that Feyenoord are to compete for the pre-season cup.
Feyenoord were then the reigning
Champions and beat Cup Winners Ajax in Amsterdam 3-2
by goals from Tomasson, Bonaventure Kalou en Patrick
Paauwe.
Feyenoord coach Gert-jan Verbeek
fears that he will have to do without top striker Roy
Makaay for a longer period.
Feyenoord's new gaffer thinks it
will take Makaay perhaps more than four weeks from the
foot injury he sustained during the Olympic Games match
against Nigeria.
"It's not looking good. A
two weeks recovery period is not realistic," Verbeek
told the Algemeen Dagblad.
"Perhaps he should have come
home earlier, but that is easy to say now. Roy said
himself he would have come home earlier had he known
what the damage to his foot was. At the time they didn't
know about a fractured bone so they weren't being irresponsible."
