Aggressive AZ give PSV first point loss
Sunday 21 September 2008
AZ have won their first points
of the season by handing PSV Eindhoven their first point
loss.
In Alkmaar the team of Louis van
Gaal won 1-0 by a late Maarten Martens goal.
The victory of the home team was
fully justified as they had been the better team for
most of the game and all of the second half.
PSV didn't seem to have come to
Alkmaar to play football.
They sat back and patiently waited
for mistakes of their opponents.
The result was a dull first half,
because AZ were a bit impressed by their league winning
opponents in the first 45 minutes.
But the second half saw an all
together different picture.
AZ raised the tempo, showed more
guts and started to push PSV back.
It didn't result in any good chances
though.
Only Demy de Zeeuw tested Isaksson
with a free kick.
On the other side AZ stopper Sergio
Romero had a very quiet night and in the second half
he didn't have to act one single time as PSV were totally
harmless up front.
When it seemed to be yet another
frustrating night for AZ - being the better side without
expressing that with goals - substitute Maarten Martens
stunned the team of Huub Stevens.
The Belgian winger was sent into
the box by a great through ball of Mounir El-Hamdaoui,
evaded a tackle of Bréchet and chipped the ball
over Isaksson.
