Feyenoord-Ajax: reactions of the coaches
Sunday 21 September 2008
Ajax coach Marco van Basten wasn't
happy about his team's performance against
Feyenoord on Sunday.
"We should have used the space
we got a lot better. We took the lead twice and shouldn't
let them come back. It' a shame they did."
Van Basten did not want to say
much about the questionable role of referee Eric Braamhaar.
"We have to look at ourselves.
We didn't do it well. But it's odd that he gives Feyenoord
a penalty close to the end. A few minutes before he
didn't when Suarez was brought down in the box. He also
let Feyenoord off the hook when Leonardo was brought
down by Timmer in the first half. But again: we can
only blame ourselves."
Gertjan Verbeek, trainer of Feyenoord
thought his team deserved the point they got from the
2-2 draw.
"We did what we could and
the result was justified. We showed great spirit, but
still we fell behind twice. That is not very welcome
for a team that has had so much misfortune of late in
the shape of injuries and poor results. That is why
I am impressed with the way we fought back and managed
to equalize. That will give us a lot of confidence for
the weeks to come."
