PSV sign Andreas Isaksson
Wednesday 02 July 2008
PSV Eindhoven have found a replacement
for goal keeper Huerelho Gomes. Swedish stopper Andreas
Isaksson (26) signed a four year contract with the
Dutch champions of the last four years.
Isaksson arrives from English club
Manchester City.
The Swede has the tough task to
make people forget about the immensely popular Gomes.
"Gomes is an outstanding goal
keeper. I have seen him at work in the Champions League.
I shall give it my best shot at PSV," Isaksson
told reporter.
Gomes wanted to leave the club
after a number of rows with the club's director Jan
Reker.
The crowd's favorite will most
likely continue his career at Tottenham Hotspurs.
The two clubs have agreed a transfer
fee, but Gomes is still to come to an agreement with
the Londoners.
PSV-coach Huub Stevens called Isaksson
a 'refined goal keeper'.
"He has a strong personality,
and knows what's coming. Besides that the Swedish mentality
is very similar to the Dutch."
