Dutch FA start investigation into "dirty
typhoid dog"
Thursday 31 July 2008
The Dutch FA (KNVB) have started
an investigation into an incident during a pre-season
match between
PSV Eindhoven
and
VVV
Venlo
in which referee Jack van Hulten allegedly called PSV-midfielder
Ibrahim
Afellay
a "vuile tyfushond" (dirty typhoid dog).
Afellay told a radio reporter of
the incident shortly after the game and said VVV-player
Frank van Kouwen also heard the referee calling him
that.
Van Kouwen later confirmed the
referee saying "Piss off, you dirty typhoid dog"
after Afellay had disputed a referee's decision using
some foul language himself.
The prosecutor of the KNVB has
asked asked Van Hulten, Afellay and Van Kouwen to present
him with a written statement about the incident.
It's hard to predict what will
be the outcome of the incident.
It is not uncommon for Dutch referees
at professional level to counter the sometimes aggressive
way in which players might sometimes address the men
in black, but rarely does this have any consequences
for the referee involved.
In this case both Afellay and Van
Kouwen say the referee went too far.
