Heerenveen snap up Kalou on a free transfer
Tuesday 22 July 2008
Bonaventure Kalou - the older brother
of Chelsea's Salomon Kalou - will return to the Eredivisie
the coming season.
The 30-year-old striker, who left
Feyenoord Rotterdam
in 2003 for French side AJ Auxerre, will move to
SC Heerenveen
from Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates on a free
transfer.
"Because with Paulo Henrique,
Roy Beerens and Pedro Beda we have a very young offensive
line we could use some experience," chairman Yme
Kuiper explained.
"Kalou is a skilled player
who can change the course of a game. That's the type
of player we needed."
Kalou went through a disappointing
period at Al-Jazira, where he went after playing just
three months for French RC Lens.
Before that Kalou played for Feyenoord
(1997/2003), AJ Auxerre (2003/2005) and Paris St. Germain
(2005/2007).
He had his most successful time
in Rotterdam where he won the championship in 1999 and
the UEFA Cup in 2002.
In 272 professional games he scored
65 goals.
