Heerenveen to next round with great display
of power
Thursday 02 October 2008
Heerenveen had no trouble at all
with Vitoria Setubal to step into the group stage of
the UEFA Cup.
After a 1-1
draw two weeks ago, Heerenveen left no room for
discussion and beat the Portuguese
5-2.
The verdict was clear within half
an hour.
Without much effort Heerenveen
established a 3-0 lead, a score that was on the scoreboard
after 24 minutes.
After mistakes in the Portuguese
defense 19-year-old Brazilian forward Paulo Henrique
opened the score, to see Gerald Sibon extend the lead
with a brace.
Where the team of coach Trond Sollied
had themselves given the goals away in the league game
at NAC Breda (4-2) last weekend, this time they were
at the receiving side.
The way Setubal gave away the goals
was childlike and they offered the hosts every chance
to work on their confidence.
Shortly after the break Tarik Elyounoussi,
who also scored in the first leg, finished a great Sibon
pass.
Heerenveen then took their foot
off the gas and after an hour the guests were able to
pull two goals back.
But any hope they might have had
was shattered by Heerenveen's fifth of the evening.
It was the second time Heerenveen
knocked out Vitoria Setubal, as they did the same two
years ago.
