Bento "Twente are strong tactically"
Tuesday 04 August 2009
Sporting Lisbon have a lot of
respect for FC Twente, but the Portuguese think they
have a good chance to reach the next round of qualification
for the Champions League tonight after the 0-0 draw
in Lisbon last Wednesday.
"Since the draw I have known
we were dealing with a difficult opponent,"Lisbon-coach
Bento said yesterday.
"FC Twente build up well and
on top they have some very fast forwards. They are very
strong tactically as well."
Bento doesn't think the 0-0 result
from the first leg is a disadvantage for Sporting.
"We didn't manage to win the
first game, and that's what we wanted. But apart from
a win this was the best possible result. I think chances
are still 50-50."
In the first leg the best opportunity
for the Portuguese to score came when they were awarded
a penalty.
But substitute goalkeeper Nikolay
Mihaylov stopped João Moutinho's effort.
"But when we get another penalty
it will again be Moutinho who will take it."

"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."
