Ajax and Madrid confirm Huntelaar transfer
Tuesday 02 December 2008
Real Madrid and Ajax have sealed
the transfer
of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old will sign a contract
until the summer of 2013 at the Royals after he has
passed a medical.
Ajax have announced that Madrid
will pay 27 million euro for the forward.
Of that sum 20 million is set and
7 million dependable on results and matches played.
Madrid wanted Huntelaar to arrive
during the transfer window in January to replace Ruud
van Nistelrooy, who is out with a knee injury until
the start of the new season.
Huntelaar will be the sixth (!)
Dutch player in the Spanish capitol as he joins Royston
Drenthe, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der
Vaart and Van Nistelrooy.
Marco van Basten had mixed emotions
about the transfer.
"Of course I am happy for
the fact that he got this big transfer, but speaking
for my team I would have rather seen him finish the
season here. It's only natural that when a club like
Real Madrid come knocking it is tough to hold on to
a player. Besides we have to think of more than one
player at Ajax. Here it is all about making a policy
that is aimed at the future. Klaas-Jan's situation is
well-known and totally different from last summer."
Ajax last summer turned down an
offer of 40 million euro from Manchester City.
