Ajax get half a dozen against De Graafschap
Sunday 21 December 2008
Ajax had a good time this afternoon
in Doetinchem where they scored six against De Graafschap,
who were down to 10 after half an hour.
The win is the biggest victory
under the reign of Marco van Basten: 0-6.
The three points they gained with
the win keep them trailing AZ by only three points.
De Graafschap will have to carry
out their battle against relegation without captain
Joost Volmer, because like he did in the game against
Sparta he saw a red card, this time for an elbow.
With Gabri for the injured Rasmus
Lindgren Ajax for the first time this season really
showed their offensive strength.
Backed by holding midfielders Gabri
and Eyong Enoh Ajax' forwards Luis Suarez, Cvitanich,
Miralem Sulejmani and Urby Emanuelson got every chance
to be creative and in the end all four scored a goal.
Cvitanich went close after 15 seconds
but he was denied by De Graafschap goal keeper Erik
Heijblok.
However, ten minutes later Heijblok
couldn't do anything about the Argentinean's header
from a Sulejmani corner: 0-1.
The Serb scored Ajax' second only
two minutes later and today showed just why Ajax paid
16 million euro for him this summer, rounding defenders
as if they weren't there and displaying his excellent
kicking skills.
Sadly his team mates did too little
with his efforts.
Being 0-2 down after less than
15 minutes was a blow for the home team, but Geert den
Ouden did have two great chances to score.
Twice he was denied by Kenneth
Vermeer.
Any hope the hosts might have had
disappeared in the 35th minute when captain Joost Volmer
treated Cvitanich to an elbow and deservedly so was
dismissed.
Being one player up on the pitch
Ajax decided to entertain their traveling fans.
Luis Suarez converted a penalty
and added a second goal minutes later Emanuelson and
Cvitanich then completed the half dozen.
De Graafschap-Ajax 0-6
0-1 10' D. Cvitanich
0-2 12' M. Sulejmani
0-3 53' L. Suárez
0-4 62' L. Suárez
