FC Twente Enschede - PSV Eindhoven 1-1
Twente kept to a draw by pale PSV
10 August 2009
It wasn't easy but PSV remained standing after 90 minutes
of football against FC Twente: 1-1.
Especially in the second half the home team put PSV
under great pressure, but the dethroned champions didn't
falter.
FC Twente were the most active side and that led to
them taking the lead in the 19th minute.
Central defender Douglas made the most of uncertain
conduct of PSV's goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.
Up until that moment PSV had been pale, perhaps because
of the many changes coach Fred Rutten had made compared
to last week's game against VVV.
Jan Kromkamp, Carlos Salcido, Orlando Engelaar and
Nordin Amrabat failed for various reasons, and it seems
Kromkamp has lost his place for now.
Just like he did in PSV's European game on Thursday
Bulgarian Stanislav Manolev played right-back.
Manolev, made a good impression both defensively and
offensively and had an assist on Balazs Dzsudzsak's
equalizer in the 25th minute.
Shortly after Rutten had to make another change when
center back Dirk Marcellis had to come off and he was
replaced with forward Danny Koevermans.
In spite of the needed tactical adaptations PSV still
had a very offensive lineup and it took Twente a while
to adapt to the changes.
Once they did the team of Steve McClaren had a number
of great chances to decide the game, but Douglas, Theo
Janssen and Kenneth Perez all found Isaksson on their
way.
PSV were limited to a few counter attacks and two good
chances (Koevermans and Dzsudzsak) resulting from them.
