FC Twente unable to beat Feyenoord
Sunday 16 November 2008
Steve McClaren's FC Twente were
unable to beat a Feyenoord team that hosted no less
then four teenagers.
After two converted spot kicks
the teams shared the points: 1-1.
Again FC Twente will feel hard
done by fate, as only Twente could claim three points
based on their overall performance.
But sadly for Twente in football
there's no such thing as points for missed chances and
having the biggest share of possession.
In a slow first half Feyenoord
let the home team have the initiative and saw that they
were unable to do much with it.
Feyenoord's defense around center
backs Andre Bahia and Kevin Hofland stood well and in
midfield Karim El Ahmadi and Giovanni van Bronckhorst
kept the pressure on the Twente build up.
However Twente did score in the
first 45 minutes after Dwight Tiendalli for once couldn't
get a grip on Eljero Eliah for once and was forced to
tackle inside the box.
Tiendalli missed the ball and referee
Bossen awarded the home side a penalty that was converted
by Blaise Nkufo: 1-0.
After the break Feyenoord came
out a lot more aggressive and were able to create some
decent forward moves.
One of them resulted in 18-year-old
Luis Pedro going down in the Twente penalty area and
here too Bossen had no other option than to reward Feyenoord
a penalty as well.
Roy Makaay converted flawlessly
and scored his fourth of the season.
The Rotterdammers were then content
to sit back and take whatever Twente threw at them.
It wasn't much.
McClaren's team had over 70% possession,
but only came really close with Theo Jansen's free kicks.
Feyenoord held on without much
concern and must have been puzzled where the six minutes
(!) of extra time had come from.
FC Twente-Feyenoord 1-1
1-0 13' N'Kufo (penalty)
1-1 53' Makaay (penalty)
