McClaren has no reason to worry
Saturday 06 December 2008
In spite of the strains of last
Wednesday against Schalke in the UEFA Cup FC Twente
were focussed enough to punish Sparta for some very
poor defending: 6-2.
Steve McClaren had been slightly
worried before the game as he had noticed how not of
all of his players were fully focussed after Wednesday's
success.
It happens more often that teams
drop points after or before a European game, but Twente
did not become the next example tonight.
Sparta had come to Enschede on
the back of a 4-0 win over NAC last week and felt confident
that they could get a result, also because in 2008 they
gained their only away victory in Enschede.
But there would be no such upset
tonight as the score was 4-0 at half-time.
In the second half Twente took
it a lot easier which lead to the visitors scoring two
to make it 5-2.
But the hosts didn't let it go
any further and added a sixth in added time.
With 12 goals in their last two
home games Twente are back in business in the league
and at least for tonight hold the second spot.
