Van Bronckhorst to quit after World Cup
Wednesday 12 May 2010
The
2010 World Cup in South Africa will be the last trick
of Holland captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
De defender and captain of Feyenoord
Rotterdam will end a long career that saw him play for
RKC Waalwijk, Feyenoord, Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal, Barcelona
and again Feyenoord.
He played 428 league games for
these clubs in which he scored 52 goals.
So far he has 97 caps (5 goals)
for Holland to his name, but as he is part of Holland's
squad for the World Cup he might - when Holland reach
the final - end on a total of 104.
The 35-year-old said he has ambitions
to move to coaching and that he will start his coaching
education after the summer.
"Looking back on my career
I don't just think of the prizes I have won, but also
of the teams I played in, the friends I made and all
the experiences I had outside football. I am proud and
grateful for all I have achieved," he said.
"It would be so great to finish
it with the World Cup in my hands. I feel a strong urge
in the squad to achieve something, so I am full of confidence."
