"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."

Ahead of Eredivisie round 29: facts & predictions

Friday 03 April 2009

• Ajax are on a poor run outside their own Arena. The Amsterdammers won only two of their last six away games: against FC Utrecht (0-2) and NAC Breda (0-3). The other four brought a draw and three defeats.

• Based on recent past Roda JC can be confident about Sunday's home game against Ajax. The Limburgers won the last three encounters in Kerkrade: 2-1, 2-0 and 2-1.

• FC Groningen have trouble scoring away to FC Utrecht. The northerners scored only five in their last ten visits. In total FC Groningen were shutout in 17 of all 29 matches they played in the Galgenwaard.

• SC Heerenveen have never won an away game to Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie. Since the 2005/06 season the results were 1-1, 1-0 and 2-2 in the Polman Stadion. Heracles haven't won any of their last five home games (two defeats, three draws)
