Twente close in on second spot
Sunday 25 January 2009
FC Twente won the derby against
Heracles Almelo and with Ajax losing in Groningen the
team of Steve McClaren are now only one point behind
the Amsterdammers in second spot.
Twente had the best start to the
game, putting a lot of pressure on the Heracles defenders
and hardly letting them out of their own half.
However, at first they failed to
create any real chances.
But after Eljero Elia had found
the first hole in the home team's defense more chances
followed.
Marko Arnautovic, again Elia and
Blaise Nkufo (twice) all squandered their possibilities
though.
Ricky van den Bergh had the only
chance for Heracles.
Despite all the missed chances
Twente did open the score before the break when Kenneth
Perez could march through midfield unhindered and curled
a great shot into the far corner.
After the break Heracles had more
of the game and created the best chances, but it was
Twente who scored again.
Brama sent Arnautovic downthe channel
and the Austrian finished clinically.
Van den Bergh's late goal provided
for a hectic ending to the game, but did not alter the
verdict: 1-2
Heracles Almelo - FC Twente
1-2
0-1 44' K. Perez
0-2 75' M. Arnautovic
