NAC keep winning
Saturday 15 November 2008
NAC Breda remain leaders in the
Eredivisie after a 3-0 win over Heracles Almelo, yesterday
in the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
It was the eighth victory for the
team of Robert Maaskant in 11 games.
Still it took the surprise package
of the last two seasons almost an hour to open the score.
In the 54th minute former Feyenoord
youngster Ellery Cairo volleyed home a good Kwakman
header.
The 3-0 score was completed by
goals from Edwin de Graaf and a spot kick from Patrick
Zwaanswijk.
NAC were almighty yesterday.
Coach Maaskant would have been
happy to that the transfer policy of the club again
paid of yesterday.
The club hosts a large number of
players who didn't make it at the highest level, but
who are now - more experienced - going through their
second youth at NAC.
The 30-year-old Cairo is yet another
example that those tactics can sometimes work.
The home team tried to get rid
of Heracles quickly by sending central defender Rob
Penders forward on every possible occasion, but good
chances were few in the first half.
Zwaanswijk hit the post with a
header and Kwakman forced Heracles goal keeper Pieckenhagen
to a good save with a shot from some distance.
Despite missing out on three key
players NAC added yet another victory to their impressive
tally, but it should be slightly worrisome to coach
Maaskant that his team get an unusual amount of yellow
cards.
The burden of the cards that will
eventually start costing the team in the form of a string
of suspensions seems the most probable reason why NAC
will start dropping points as the season continues.
But for now no one in Breda cares
about the second place in the yellow and red card ranking,
because as long as they are first in the most important
table the fans are over the moon.
