Strong NEC keep NAC to 1-1
Sunday 23 November 2008
NAC Breda took over the top spot
in the Eredivisie for at least a day but did drop two
points in a home game with a 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen.
The score was a just illustration
of 90 minutes of football between the two that was colored
by eight yellow cards.
In an interesting first half both
teams had a number of good chances without playing very
well.
Edwin de Graaf missed the biggest
one for NAC but it was NEC who scored first.
However the score remained 0-0
as referee Blom was the only one in the stadium who
did not see that the ball had crossed the line.
But in the 27th minute the visitors
did score when Schöne blasted a low drive against
the net from 18 meters out.
The goal caused a lot of irritation
with the home team and the game then got a bit nasty,
which resulted in four yellow cards before the half-time
whistle.
Shortly before the end of the first
half NEC missed a massive chances to double their lead.
After the break NAC went looking
for the equalizer and got it on the hour when De Graaf
headed home a Kurt Elshot cross.
NEC then had the best chances to
score a second but there were no more goals and all
seemed content with a point as both coaches agreed afterwards
that the game "could have gone either way".
NAC's point loss means that Ajax
can become the sole leaders if they manage to beat AZ
Alkmaar today (12h30 GMT+1).
