Mario Been: "Can't leave NEC now"
Monday 19 January 2009
Mario Been has told the Board of
Directors of NEC Nijmegen that he will not go to Feyenoord
at this moment if the Rotterdammers were to approach
him.
"I will stay with NEC at least
until this summer," Been said Monday morning.
"When Feyenoord still want
me then we can have another look at the situation."
From the moment Feyenoord coach
Gertjan Verbeek got fired Been knows he was top of the
list to replace the Friesian.
The call from the fans of the club
for their former player was loud in the past few days.
"But it's not right to leave
the club at this stage. I have built up something nice
here and there is a fantastic cooperation with the people
here in Nijmegen, but with the club's management and
the players. NEC are a great club for me," says
Been who is still in Europe with his team.
Feyenoord will now have to decide
whether they attract a care taker coach or whether they
sign someone else for a longer term.
Leo Beenhakker is the main candidate
to do the job until the summer and then move on to the
position of Director of Football.
In that case Been could come to
Feyenoord this summer.
