PSV still fail to impress
Wednesday 29 October 2008
After two defeats in a row PSV
have finally won a game again.
In Den Haag the reigning champions
were too strong for ADO.
Defender Eric Addo opened the score
in the second half after which Otman Bakkal decided
the game in the last minute.
The score might implicate that
this is the turn around for PSV, but the performance
of the team of Huub Stevens showed no such thing.
It did make a difference that Ibrahim
Afellay was there again.
The creative midfielder failed
in the lost match against
Roda on Saturday.
But the return of Afellay was not
the only change Stevens had made.
Mexican defenders Carlos Salcido
and Francisco Rodriguez were benched after their disappointing
displays of recent weeks, and that meant Addo's first
start of the season.
Up front Danko Lazovic played in
stead of Danny Koevermans.
With the injuries of Stijn Wuytens,
Brechet and Amrabat PSV were changed in six positions.
But in the new lineup PSV again
failed to impress.
The team didn't look together and
didn't seem to a have a lot of confidence, PSV lack
a scoring ability and the defense hasn't been this shaky
in years.
In the first half PSV didn't create
a single decent chance, but after the break they took
more initiative.
Perhaps it was exemplary that it
was defender Addo who gave his team the lead.
ADO had some great chances after
the opening goal to equalize, but PSV were spared a
new disappointment.
Great relief could be seen on the
faces of the PSV players as they left the pitch, but
according to Huub Stevens that was only natural.
"Yes it is, after you have
lost two games in a row. And when you look at all the
chances PSV deserved to win."
ADO-coach André Wetzel thought
his team should have made the difference in the first
half.
"We played boldly and we played
well. Had we scored before the break I am not so sure
whether PSV would have been able to turn things around.
I am disappointed with the result but very proud of
our performance."
