PSV squeeze out a draw against FC Twente
Saturday 27 December 2008
Although PSV came closest to a
goal they will have been quite happy to get a point
from their home game against FC Twente.
The hosts were the slightly better
team in the first half without displaying any good football.
Twente's stand-in defense stood
strong, but because they had trouble getting a grip
on their opponent's midfield PSV had saw most of the
ball in the first half.
Though PSV created little they
went close twice in the first half, both times from
set pieces.
First center back Jeremy Brechet
saw a header end up on the outside of the post and some
15 minutes later a free kick of Balasz Dzudzak bounced
off the goal line after it had hit the cross bar.
In-between Marco Arnautovic also
hit the post on the other side.
No matter how exciting they were
the only moments worth mentioning in the first half.
After the break PSV came out a
bit more aggressive and pressed FC Twente back against
their own penalty area.
But the face of the game totally
changed when Steve McClaren replaced the disappointing
Theo Jansen with Cheik Tioté.
Instantly FC Twente took the initiative
and if there was any team looking to be about to score
it were the visitors.
Yet despite being the far better
team Twente lacked a businesslike approach in front
of goal and a handful of promising situations were squandered.
In the end 0-0 was perhaps a just
result but those in Eindhoven will have been a bit relieved
when referee Vink blew the final whistle.
