Stevens quits
Wednesday 28 January 2009
Huub Stevens has quit as coach
of PSV Eindhoven.
His resignation has been accepted
by the PSV Board of Directors.
Stevens feels he and the players
never clicked.
"PSV and Huub Stevens regret
to announce that the relationship and confidence between
the coach and the players are not good enough to perform
as they should," the club say on their website.
The former Hamburg coach was in
his first season at PSV.
His contract ran until the summer
of 2010, but under his guidance PSV were having a disappointing
season.
A fifth consecutive league title
so far seems out of the question as the gap with league
leaders AZ Alkmaar has grown to 15 points.
PSV went out in Europe without
standing much of a chance in their Champions League
group and they have also been eliminated (by AZ) from
the KNVB Cup.
It is yet unclear who will be appointed
as caretaker.
Possible candidates are Ruud Gullit,
Wiljan Vloet, Ronald Koeman, Phillip Cocu and Erwin
Koeman.
