PSV have no trouble with Willem II
Monday 03 November 2008
PSV on Saturday continued their
path to the top of the Eredivisie by easily beating
Willem II Tilburg 2-0 in Eindhoven.
The reigning champions had an easy
start to the game when after six minutes Willem II defender
Arjan Swinkels fully mis-hit a Balazs Dzsudzsak cross
and beat his own goal keeper: 1-0.
The kind gift didn't inspire PSV
to great deeds though.
There was one nice effort of Ibrahim
Afellay, and Danny Koevermans missed a chance; that
was about it.
Not that PSV's young team were
short of ideas, but the execution was far from perfect,
but on the other side the defense around Erik Addo and
Timmy Simons worked well so the narrow lead was never
in any danger.
There was moment of anxiety when
Mehmet Akgün came face to face with Andreas Isaksson
shortly after the interval, but the Swedish stopper
did his job well.
Shortly after the hour the game
was decided when Danny Koevermans celebrate his 30th
birthday by making it 2-0 with a magnificent lob over
Willem II stopper Maikel Aerts.
PSV had a few more chances in the
last half our, but Aerts stood in the way of a third
PSV goal.
