Roda JC coach gets the sack
Wednesday 08 October 2008
The management of Roda JC have
fired their coach Raymond Atteveld.
He is being blamed for the poor
results.
His contract would expire in 2010.
His duties will be performed by
his assistant Martin Koopman for the time being.
Roda JC are currently 15th in the
Eredivisie with 2 points from 5 games.
But it
is said that it's also the poor second half of last
season that has now cost Atteveld his job.
Atteveld started with the club
in February 2007, succeeding Huub Stevens, who left
for Hamburger SV and is now coach of PSV Eindhoven.
Until that moment Atteveld was
Stevens' assistant in Kerkrade.
In Atteveld's first season Roda
finished sixth in the league, followed by a ninth spot
last season.
The man from Amsterdam who holds
the record
for the most yellow cards (11) in one season is the
first Eredivisie coach to lose his job this season.
"It was an awkward decision,
but it was also inevitable," Director of Football
Martin van Geel explained.
Since January 2008 Roda JC
have one only three games and not one single away game.
We only gained 17 points in that period. Of course we
did everything we could together with the coach to turn
things around. It didn't work out. In the end we had
no hope that Atteveld could change things for the better.
We have not yet made up our mind about a possible predecessor
for Atteveld."
