Foeke Booy lashes out at referee again
Sunday 28 December 2008
Sparta Rotterdam coach Foeke Booy
lashed out at the referee again after his team lost
3-2 at the hands of Willem II Tilburg on Saturday.
In doing so he ignored a warning
of referees boss Jaap Uilenberg to keep quiet.
According to Booy Uilenberg had
said to Sparta Director Peter Bonthuis at half-time
that "criticizing the referee was not in Sparta's
best interest".
However Booy didn't feel like keeping
his mouth shut about the way referee Michel Winter led
the game.
The referee indeed took some dubious
decisions.
He only gave Willem II goal keeper
Maikel Aerts a yellow card after he brought down Rydell
Poepon in the penalty area and kept him from scoring,
but minutes after Sparta player Edouard Duplan did see
a second yellow after an unfortunate challenge.
"I can not do much else than
to conclude that this man does not know what he's doing.
11 against 10 is tough, but 12 against 10 is impossible,"
Booy muttered.
The Sparta coaching staff had already
annoyed Uilenberg after the game against Heracles Almelo,
in which Mark Looms was allowed to kick Poepon out of
the game without getting penalized.
After the game Booy stated that
it was "only natural that there are no Dutch referees
at the next World Cup".
