NAC without a clue against Sparta Rotterdam
Sunday 30 November 2008
NAC Breda went down in bewildering
fashion at Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday: 4-0.
Coach Robert Maaskant saw a hapless
team that was was 3-0 behind at half-time and in the
end conceded four against team that was bottom of the
table, while NAC could have regained the top spot next
to AZ Alkmaar.
The visitors did have some valid
excuses: defender Rob Penders, topscorer Matthew Amoah
(11 goals) and midfielder Tommie van der Leegte are
all key players and were all missing.
And their replacements were unable
to keep the machine NAC have been this season going.
With youngster Kevin Strootman
(18) again being one of the best on the pitch Sparta
took a 2-0 lead within 15 minutes and made it three
just before half-time.
Now it wasn't that NAC didn't have
any chances, but Sparta keeper Harald Wapenaar denied
Idabdelhay and Anthony Lurling twice and Edwin de Graaf
hit the bar when the score was 2-0.
In the second half NAC were spared
from a hammering as only Strootman scored from a handful
of chances for the hosts: 4-0.
Sparta are still in the bottom
quarter of the table, but Foeke Booy's bunch of youngsters
are getting better every week and when the coach can
fix the team's defensive problems Sparta should have
no trouble staying up this season.
