Poor Vitesse beat even poorer Volendam
Saturday 27 December 2008
Despite busloads of traveling fans
Volendam again stood empty handed after 90 minutes of
football against Vitesse Arnhem, who played a tiny bit
less bad than the visitors did.
It means Volendam finish the first
half of the season last in the league.
The team again showed that they
are capable of very little away from their own artificial
turf, although in the first half they didn't play that
much worse then their opponents.
But at half-time the score board
showed 2-0 to Vitesse.
Alexander Büttner had opened
the score after 7 minutes and a little later Santi Kolk
benefited from a messed up goal kick by goal keeper
Jeroen Verhoeven.
Vitesse hadn't won any of their
last seven league encounters and were desperate for
a little success.
Criticism on coach Hans Westerhof
is mounting, and despite escaping the last spot by beating
Volendam the play of Vitesse is still very poor.
Despite being 2-0 up at home against
the team that has been bottom of the table all season
Vitesse were very nervous in the second half and that
only got worse when Melvin Platje pulled one back shortly
after the break.
Volendam had one good chance to
equalize, but Frank van der Struijk cleared the ball
of the goal line.
Vitesse were hanging by their fingernails
until substitute Mads Junker decided matters by scoring
a third.
Vitesse-FC Volendam 3-1
1-0 07' A. Buttner
2-0 25' S. Kolk
2-1 55' M. Platje
3-1 83' M. Junker
