Bouma: "I've gone through the desert"
Wilfred Bouma replaced the injured
Joris Mathijsen in the game against Bulgaria on Saturday.
It was the first time since a long time that Bouma appeared
in Oranje. It was on the same day that he was informed
he made the final cut for the finals. "Playing
for Oranje is the best thing in the world," said
the PSV defender.
"Once you make the first cut
yo start getting your hopes up," he explains. "But
going back a few weeks it was very unexpected. I've
really had to go through the desert for this one."
Bouma is very enthusiastic about
the player he will be competing with for the left back
position, his team mate at PSV, Jetro Willems. "These
days you see what we've known for a while now: that
he is enormously talented," says Bouma. "He
is one of the candidates at left back. I can only be
happy for him that he's coming along as well."
