Cruyff: "Kuyt at right back"
7 June 2012
Gregory van der Wiel has in the
eyes of some been far from impressive at right back
for the Netherlands. He is picked for his offensive
strength, but criticized for his defensive slip ups.
It seems Johan Cruyff has seen this as well and in in
an interview with Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad said
that if it were up to him (which it is not) he wouldopt
for Dirk Kuyt at that position. Kuyt at the moment has
to settle for a place as a substitute and Cruyff thinks
the Liverpool payer deserves more.
"Why not put him at right
back? Most opponents play without a left winger. I believe
Kuyt is much better than we all think," says theOracle.
"He doesn't even have to change much about his
game, just play like he always does and do that a bit
more to the back."
Cruyff also had an opinion about
the other wing back position: "Does Jetro Willems
have enough experience? When he never starts he will
not get any. Can Bouma play there? You need more pace
at the back."
Besides that Cruyff would also
try to form a team that contains both Robin van Persie
and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in the starting lineup.'"Just
shuffle things around a bit, try out some things, be
adventurous. But Bert van Marwijk is different. He deserves
respect for what he has achieved with Oranje. But with
his choices he puts a lot of pressure on himself."
Huntelaar will not have to hang down his head, Cruyff
thinks."You never finish a tournament with the
same 11 as you started it with."
