Van Marwijk again opts for Van Persie instead of Huntelaar
1 June 2012
Oranje bondscoach Bert van Marwijk
will again opt for Robin van Persie up front instead
of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in Saturday's farewell game against
Northern-Ireland.
Huntelaar was informed of this
decision by Van Marwijk on Friday. "I'm disappointed
that he doesn't chose me," Huntelaar told Dutch
daily Algemeen Dagblad. "Of course I was upset
and disappointed, but everyone knows I'm not a quitter."
The manager and the striker have
sat around the table for the first time during the training
camp in Lausanne, Switzerland. On Friday there was a
second chat, in which Huntelaar was told that Van Persie
is first choice as center forward.
"They were two very personal
talks, and I got angry on both occasions," Huntelaar
says. "I am very disappointed that he hasn't picked
me. I feel it has all been decided beforehand.
De Telegraaf reported today that
Stijn Schaars will be playing at left back, as he did
against Slovakia, and seems to have won the battle with
Jetro Willems, who started against Bulgaria. Ron Vlaar
will profit from the absence of the recovering Joris
Mathijsen and Wilfred Bouma and will start as the left
center back.
Expected lineup Oranje:
Stekelenburg; Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Vlaar, Schaars;
Van Bommel, De Jong; Robben, Sneijder, Afellay; Van
Persie
