Van der Vaart to replace De Jong
8 October 2010
It is expected that Rafael van
der Vaart will replace the suspended Nigel de Jong in
tonight's Euro 2012 qualification game in Chisinau against
Moldavia. The Tottenham Hotspur-player will be one of
two midfielders besides captain Mark van Bommel. De
Jong has been dropped from the squad by Van Marwijk
for repeated misconduct on the pitch after his rough
tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa last weekend.
Van Marwijk did not want to confirm
he will start with Van der Vaart after Thursday's training
session. "It's not to annoy you guys, but the players
will also only hear the lineup shortly before the game,"
the manager explained.
Van Marwijk also has to come with
a creative solution for the left flank now that both
Arjen Robben and Eljero Elia are out with injuries.
Ibrahim Afellay seems the best candidate for that position.
