Van Gaal: "PSV have more quality
than AZ"
Wednesday 12 November 2008
Despite the fact that AZ are joint
leaders in the Eredivisie and have beaten
PSV earlier in the season AZ coach Louis van Gaal does
not see his team as the big favorites for tonight's
Cup tie against with the reigning champions.
Van Gaal says PSV simply host more
quality than his team does.
"PSV can decide a game by
their individual quality. After Ajax they have the best
players in the Eredivisie. Last season it was the other
way around but PSV have taken off a coat or two with
the departure of several players. Because PSV have more
individual quality we have to better as a team. But
I am sensing that my players are full of confidence."
AZ are still without one of their
main strikers, Belgium international Moussa Dembele,
who is suffering from a painful knee.
"We are increasing the intensity
of his training sessions. It's going will but he is
not yet without pain. It's still unclear what exactly
is the matter with his knee. All sorts of scans have
been made and they reveal no problem so we are hopeful
that things are not too bad. An operation is needed
to be really sure, but that would mean that he is our
for weeks," Van Gaal said.
AZ skipper Stijn Schaars is available
for tonight's game.
PSV could have to do without midfielder
Timmy Simons.
The Belgian got a knock on the
head and wasn't feeling well yesterday.
PSV coach Huub Stevens will certainly
have to do without Nordin Amrabat and Jérémie
Bréchet.
Eric Addo (shin) and Otman Bakkal
(hamstring) are doubtful.
