Easy win for Feyenoord
Thursday 13 November 2008
Feyenoord took things a bit too
easy in the first half (1-1) but shortly after the break
the Rotterdammers stepped on the gas and scored twice
within five minutes to beat the amateurs of HHC Hardenberg
and secure a place among the last 16 of the KNVB Cup:
1-5.
The fans of HHC Hardenberg from
the small provincial town with the same name had turned
their third round encounter with Feyenoord into an all-village-event.
The club had rented the much bigger
stadium of nearby FC Emmen and 35 busses of fans traveled
to see the amateur team take on the reigning cup winners.
The party atmosphere had not gotten
a hold of the Hardenberg players as they seemed to have
an all out war on their minds.
Captain Gerard Kocks should have
seen a red card in the eighth minute when he kicked
Luigi Bruins out of the game, but the referee didn't
even consider it worth a yellow card.
Kocks went on to kick at every
Feyenoord player that dared to move near him but finished
the 90 minutes with only a yellow card to his name.
The home team took the lead after
a terrible mistake of Michal Janota but Feyenoord equalized
soon after by a goal of the 18-year-old Luis Pedro scoring
on his debut.
After the break Feyenoord quickly
made sure they wouldn't have to go into extra time by
goals of Roy Makaay and again Luis Pedro.
The two goals deflated the Hardenberg
spirit and Feyenoord scored two more (Makaay and Hofland)
to give the match a score that sort of fits the quality
difference.
