Amateur team stun RKC Waalwijk
Wednesday 12 November 2008
It had to be the one professional
team that has gone unbeaten all season that was at the
receiving end of the biggest upset in the third round
of the KNVB Cup yesterday.
Jupiler League side RKC Waalwijk
lost at home (1-2) to the amateurs of Achilles '29.
Man of the match was Achilles player
Thijs Hendriks.
After Anton Jongsma had given the
home team the lead in the first half Hendriks scored
two to give the team from Groesbeek a place with the
last 16.
RKC were down to ten after goal
keeper Theo Zwarthoed was sent off for the foul that
caused the penalty from which Achilles equalized.
Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen also
suffered against an amateur team, but the team of coach
Mario Been were able to win it in the end.
Against Rijnsburgse boys NEC scored
the only goal of the game in extra time when Youssef
El-Akchaoui scored from the spot.
Rijnsburg had missed a penalty
in regular time.
