Holland again can't beat Australia

Saturday 10 October 2009

Holland have again been unable to beat Australia.

The friendly game in Sydney ended the way it started: 0-0.

Holland only had a couple of good chances in the first half, through Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Dirk Kuyt, but all in all Oranjes performance wasn't impressive.

After the break Australia had the upper hand and they frequently pushed the Dutch back into their own half without creating anything.

All Dutch players got some playing time from coach Bert van Marwijk.

"The intellectualisation
of football has
always foundered
on a simple problem-
-the players. Doing
all your most
rewarding thinking
with your feet seems
to dull the philo-
sophical impulse.
Unless, of course,
you are Dutch.
According to legend,
Europeans played
a moronic, muscular
version of the world's
game, until Holland
proclaimed its vision
of total football in the
1974 World Cup,
and enlightenment
dawned."
