UEFA Cup: tough draw for remaining Dutch
teams
Friday 19 December 2008
The three remaining Dutch teams
in the UEFA Cup were paired to tough opposition in today's
draw
for the round of 32 in Nyon, France.
Yesterday's surprise package NEC
Nijmegen will start with a home game against Hamburg
of Dutch coach Martin Jol and Dutch players Joris Mathijsen,
Nigel de Jong and Romeo Castelen.
Ajax were drawn to Italian giants
Fiorentina.
The Amsterdammers will start with
an away game to the current number 5 of the Serie A.
Steve McClaren's FC Twente will
also start with an away game to Olympique Marseilles.
Marseilles coached by former PSV
player were in the group of PSV in the first round of
the Champions League.
The club of Boudewijn Zenden lost
2-0 in Eindhoven but beat the Dutch champions in Marseilles
3-0.
Olympique are currently joint second
in the French first division, trailing eternal leaders
Lyon by only three points.
All three Dutch teams seem to have
a 50-50 chance to progress to the round of 16.
