McClaren would agree to a draw in Manchester
Thursday 06 November 2008
If Steve McClaren could sign somewhere
to get a point in tonight's UEFA Cup game of FC Twente
at Manchester City, he would have put pen to paper immediately.
McClaren repeated yesterday before
Twente's last training in Manchester that his team have
nothing to lose against City's millionaires.
"We already have three points
so all pressure is with Manchester City. I would sign
for a draw," said the Twente coach.
The team from Enschede started
their group campaign with a 1-0 win against Racing Santander
two weeks ago and McClaren thinks his team need another
three points to qualify for the next round.
The first of these three should
be gained in Manchester on Thursday.
"We want to get better and
for that we need experience. That is why it is great
for these guys to play against a fantastic player like
Robinho."
Kenneth Perez and Wout Brama are
fit again and it seems likely that Brama will be in
the starting lineup.
Steve McClaren fled England after
his failed mission with the English national team to
revive his career in the relative peace of the Eredivisie.
Ironically fate paired him to two
English clubs.
In the third qualification round
of the Champions League Arsenal were Twente's opponents
and now it's Manchester City.
Of course the English press came
out en masse for the former England boss.
McClaren answered all questions
with a smile and emphasized to really be enjoying himself
in Enschede: "FC Twente are a great club with fantastic
players. I'm enjoying every minute of it."
He will use his visit to Manchester
to go and see his former team mate at United, Alex Ferguson.
"I shall not ask him for any
advice, but of course I shall go and see him,"
said the Brit before he stepped onto the training ground.
Presumable lineup: Boschker; Stam,
Douglas, Wielaert and Braafheid; Brama, Hersi and Tioté;
Arnautovic, N'Kufo and Elia.
