No Feyenoord fans to Nancy
Wednesday 08 October 2008
Feyenoord will not allow any of
it's fans to travel to the club's UEFA Cup match against
AS Nancy.
The club's management wants to
rule out any possible riots and for that reason they
will not request any tickets for sale to the fans.
Feyenoord have decided to take
the measure because of fans misbehaving badly when Feyenoord
played in Nancy on 30 November 2006.
As a consequence Feyenoord were
banned from the tournament for a year.
Onno Jacobs, financial director
of Feyenoord, emphasizes that the club would rather
be safe than sorry: "We don't expect the troublemakers
of 2006 to travel to Nancy this time, but it's only
logical that people in France are anxious. Every tiny
incident could lead to a tensed reaction, with possibly
serious consequences. We can not run that risk. The
future of Feyenoord is more important than this one
game."
