Van Marwijk in favor of 6+5
Thursday 23 October 2008
Bondscoach Bert van Marwijk
is an advocate of the 6+5 rule, the FIFA plan that tells
clubs to put six players from their own country in their
starting lineup.
"It's a shame that less and
less Dutch players play in the Eredivisie. That is why
I am in favor of the 6+5 rule. That rule will force
clubs to lineup enough Dutch players. Clubs mustn't
forget their own youth products. By putting on too many
foreign players clubs will do just that. That is not
a good thing for Dutch football and thus not not a good
thing for the Dutch national team," Van Marwijk
said on the official website of the KNVB.
"Oranje are benefiting greatly
from Dutch players in strong foreign leagues. The moment
less Dutch players get a chance in the Eredivisie that
is when less Dutch players will play in those European
leagues. That will ultimately weaken the national team
and it is a thing we must prevent from happening,"
the Holland boss warned.
